The POW Garlic Farm

What is the POW Garlic Farm?

The POW Garlic Farm is a unique project to take day to day learning out of the classroom and embed enterprise across The Blackbird Academy Trust in a real and meaningful way. POW stands for Pegasus, Orchard Meadow and Windale (the three schools in the Academy).

The Farm will be run as a business and be managed by students across the three schools, Orchard Meadow, Pegasus and Windale. The aim of the Garlic Farm is for the students to run the company and to be responsible for its organisation. Adults may advise and guide but the success of the business and all its decisions will be down to its students. The aim for the Garlic Farm will be that it will generate enough money to be self-funding, and will add multiple cross-curricular learning opportunities for the Academy.

The learning opportunity:

  •          Students will understand how a company works and develop their business/entrepreneurial skills.
  •          Students will be able to apply their day to day learning such as literacy and numeracy to the real world of business.
  •          Students will be able to develop soft skills such as communication, presentation and team building skills. These skills are highly prized by employers and should boost the self-esteem of those taking part.
